Post Mortem - What Went Wrong
The main website experienced intermittent connectivity issues, causing it to experience downtime for usually about 5-10 minutes at random intervals throughout the day.
What was the issue?
A DNS configuration error in Cloudflare made the DNS records for the website 'Proxied' when they should not have been. This caused connectivity issues between Cloudflare and Carrd's servers, resulting in Cloudflare returning a HTTP 520 error.
Costs & Length of Downtime
The affected service was down for approximately 1 hour in total.
The most downtime experienced at any one time was 20 minutes.
How This Will Be Prevented in the Future
More attention will be paid towards ensuring a proper DNS configuration is created and tested thoroughly for deployment. I will also follow documentation and support recommendations more thoroughly to ensure this does not crop up again.
